TAIWAN's Yang Ming now offers a digital booking, joining fellow Taiwanese carrier Evergreen that has been doing this for a year together with half the global carriers, reports IHS Media.
Yang Ming will use a quoting and booking platform developed by BlueX Trade, a San Francisco- and Taipei-based software provider.
Evergreen's GreenX instant quoting and booking product, like Maersk Spot, is "being used mostly by forwarders as well," said BlueX Trade chief operating officer Vivian Chiang.
"We believe Yang Ming will see the same. And we suspect that MSC, CMA, and Hapag will see that it's mostly forwarders who will be using the digital platforms," she said.
{非本站网址} noted in August that more lines in Asia were likely to follow Evergreen's lead, a development that Yang Ming's use of BlueX confirms.
Said Yang Ming chief information officer Steven Tsao: "Through our partnership with BlueX Trade, we look forward to providing real-time rates and digital booking services to bring new experiences via innovative models to customers."
A key element of digital pricing tools for container lines is differentiating between the ability to quote a rate instantly, and doing so dynamically, where the rate changes frequently, said the report.
Most lines lack the ability to quote dynamically, and shippers and forwarders don't necessarily benefit from seeing rates that change frequently, it said.
