CHINA State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) says it has bagged its largest containership contract for the construction of thirteen 16,000 TEU box ships at a total cost of over CNY10 billion (US$1.5 billion), reports Seatrade Maritimes News, Colchester, UK.

The vessels designed by CSSC Marine Design & Research Institute measure 366 metres long and 51 metres wide will be equipped with a scrubber fitted WinGD main engine. Reports have linked the orders to container line MSC, although CSSC did not disclose the name of the party described as a "world leading containership owner".
Dalian Shipbuilding Industry and Guangzhou Shipyard International, two shipbuilding units under CSSC, will build seven and six containerships respectively, with expected deliveries during 2023 and 2024.
"Signing of the new order would strengthen the cooperation relationship between CSSC and the world leading container ship owner, which could also improve the group's position in large size container shipbuilding market," said CSSC.
"The successful acquisition of this order has allowed the Chinese-made independent brand to make another brilliant appearance in the international market."
