DP World Caucedo receives largest ship after completing expansion project

DP World Caucedo has completed its US$114 million expansion allowing it to receive the biggest vessel ever to dock in the Dominican Republic, the 12,990 TEU-MSC Katrina, which connects Europe with the Caribbean, South America and the Pacific, reports Seatrade Maritime News, Colchester, UK.

The expansion raised capacity to 2.5 million TEU and currently it has ten gantry cranes (five super post-Panamax and five post-Panamax), 32 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes.
DP World Caucedo is aiming to contribute to the country's plans to become the main logistics hub in the Caribbean region.
"At DP World we seek to promote the Dominican Republic as a value proposition for manufacturing companies and multinational industries. This, with the aim of attracting new investments of foreign capital under the nearshoring scheme and transforming the country into the logistics hub of the Caribbean," said Morten Johansen, CEO of DP World in the Dominican Republic.
"For this reason, we are constantly working to strengthen the capacity of our service ecosystem in order to contribute to make the supply chain more efficient in the country and throughout the region."
