Tampa Bay's Port Manatee's H1 cargo up 73pc to 67,675 TEU

PORT Manatee, in Florda's Tampa Bay area, has posted a 73 per cent year on year increase in container volume in its first half fiscal to an all-time-high 67,675 TEU.

This puts the port well on its way to smashing its 12-month record of 88,466 TEU accomplished in fiscal 2020, reports the local Bradenton Herald.
In May 2020, the port also released results of a study by Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based Martin Associates, that pegs the port's annual economic impact at more than US$3.9 billion, directly and indirectly generating 27,156 jobs.
Those figures were modelled upon the port's fiscal year ended September 30, 2019, when 57,255 TEU crossed Port Manatee docks that's 18 per cent less for the full year against this first half volume,.
Because increases in cargo flows drive gains in jobs and overall economic impacts, it's safe to say Port Manatee is now furnishing considerably more than $4 billion - perhaps more than $5 billion - in contributions to our region's well-being while supporting more than 30,000 jobs.
