TWO of the largest container shipping companies in the world, Hapag-Lloyd and Mediterranean Shipping (MSC), have revised their prices in Australia and New Zealand due to the higher container demand, reports Container News.

The German shipping line Hapag-Lloyd announced new general rate increases (GRI) in Australia and New Zealand, which are expected to take effect on July 1. It will implement the following GRI for all dry, reefer, non-operating reefer, tank, flat rack and open-top containers from the United States and Canada ports to Australia and New Zealand: US$200 and $400 for all types of TEU and FEU respectively.
Additionally, Hapag-Lloyd will apply a GRI from New Zealand and Australia for all types of boxes, as follows: $250/TRU all equipment types and $500/FEU all equipment types.
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has confirmed the extension of the peak season surcharge (PSS) period for Europe to Oceania trade announced in April until June 30 due to the strong container demand between the two regions.
