A PROBE into the dockside collision of the 8,540-TEU OOCL Durban knocked down one Kaohsiung quay crane and severely damaged another, has been launched.

"No damage to the hull has been observed," said Hong Kong-based Overseas Orient Container Line (OOCL) in a statement. "The cause and other details of the incident are under investigation."
The incident began when the Cosco-owned OOCL ship pulled into dock at Pier 66, passing the new 2,940-TEU YM Constancy at Pier 70 it came too close and collided.
The OOCL Durban also scrapped the side of the YM Constancy, dragging it forward, and catching one of the dock's container gantry cranes, causing it to collapse and strike the next crane along, causing serious damage.
One man suffered a minor injury to his arm, while two were trapped on the damaged crane. They were rescued with the help of a Kato mobile crane and a man basket.
Said a port spokesman: "One crane collapsed, one was severely damaged - but not collapsed while 30 to 50 containers were damaged."
Said OOCL: "The incident caused the collapse of the gantry crane and the injury of a port worker. The vessel was not carrying any cargo at the time of the incident."
