AUSTRALIAN dockers are threatening immediate nationwide work stoppages at Patrick Terminals, the last of Australia's big-four terminal operators yet to agree to a new pay and conditions agreement, reports IHS Media.
Patrick Terminals' facilities, which include terminals in Melbourne, Sydney, and Fremantle, handle about 40 per cent of Australia's container throughput and are already reeling from Covid work restrictions.
The union notice "means there will be continuous rolling industrial action in Patrick Terminal's Melbourne container terminal, with strikes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of October and impacts across all other days of the month," Patrick CEO Michael Jovicic said.
The Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) said it would launch a series of strikes at Patrick's Port Botany terminal starting today October 1, and gave notice of coinciding industrial action and stoppages at Patrick's Melbourne, Brisbane, and Fremantle terminals.
