Newbuilding orders totalled 28.05m dwt, declining 42.9% year-on-year. Orders on hand were 102.03m dwt, an increase of 11.5%.

Shipbuilding export volume was 20.74m dwt, dropping 15.9%; newly-received export shipbuilding orders were 25.37m dwt,a fall of 42.5%; export orders on hand were 90.3m dwt as the end of August, growing 11.4%, accounting for 86.6%, 90.4% and 88.5% of national volume respectively.

The total shipbuilding export value was $13.55bn, dropping 5.2%. Bulk carriers, tankers and containerships dominated the ship export market.  

The top five Chinese provinces and cities for shipbuilding output in the first eight months were Jiangsu, Shanghai, Liaoning,Shandong and Zhejiang, which had delivered 92.1% of China’s total shipbuilding volume.

During Jan-August, China’s shipbuilding output, newly received orders and orders on hand accounted for 45.4%, 50.6% and 47.7% respectively in global shipbuilding market.
