Hong Kong container volume edges up 0.7pc to 1.56m TEU in October

THE Port of Hong Kong saw container throughput increase by 0.7 per cent in October to 1.56 million TEU compared to the same month last year when the port handled a total of 1.55 million TEU.

The box volume was the third highest monthly total so far this year and was 1.5 per cent up on September when throughput totalled 1.54 million TEU.
Kwai Tsing terminals handled a total of 1.25 million TEU in October, 2.6 per cent up from the corresponding period in 2019 when box throughput totalled 1.22 million TEU.
However, the container throughput at non-Kwai Tsing terminals where the volume totalled 315,000 TEU, was down 6.2 per cent down from 366,000 TEU in October 2019.
For the year-to-date, throughput amounted to 14.88 million TEU, 2.6 per cent down from the corresponding ten-month period last year.
