Seaspan orders six boxships at CSSC yards

The containership owner Seaspan has placed orders at Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding and Jiangnan Shipyard, two major shipbuilding arms of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), to build six 15,500 teu containerships.

Each of the shipyards will construct three containerships respectively with expected deliveries beginning in the second half of 2023 and extending through the mid-2024.
The vessels, will be in 366 metres length, 51 metres width and 30.2 metres depth, equipped with scrubbers, complying with the regulations of Tier 3.

The first ship will start construction at Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding. Upon completion, the vessels will be deployed on long-term charters with global liner customers.
As the end of 2020, Seaspan's global fleet consisted of 127 vessels. Starting from December 2020, and along with these new six vessels, Seaspan had added a total of 580,000 teu capacity represented by 39 vessels, including 37 newbuild vessels and two second-hand vessels.
