FRENCH shipping giant CMA CGM has unveiled a gimmick to improve the environmental performance of the group's customers through "Cleaner Energy Biomethane", reports Bunkerspot of Adderbury, England.
Biomethane is a renewable green gas produced from sources including organic and plant waste from European agriculture that is processed at methanation facilities.
CMA CGM says it will enable customers to 'analyse their environmental footprints, using cleaner alternative energy sources to offset the emissions generated during the transport of their goods'.
Two of the services - "Cleaner Energy LNG" and "Cleaner Energy Biofuel" - allow customers the choice of transporting their goods on ships burning alternative fuels, an offering now been expanded with the launch of "Cleaner Energy Biomethane", said the company press release.
"By adding biomethane to our ACT with CMA CGM range of high value-added services, we are introducing an even more innovative way of advancing the shipping sector's energy transition," said CMA CGM vice president Guillaume Lathelize.
"Through the use of a non-fossil-fuel energy, we are enabling them to reach a new milestone in improving the environmental performance of the shipment of their goods," he said.
