THE Port of Hong Kong saw container throughput increase by 6.8 per cent in April to 1.56 million TEU compared to the same month last year when the port handled a total of 1.46 million TEU.
The box volume was the second highest monthly total so far this year and was 3.7 per cent down on March when throughput totalled 1.62 million TEU.
Kwai Tsing terminals handled a total of 1.23 million TEU in April, 6.7 per cent up from the corresponding period in 2019 when box throughput totalled 1.15 million TEU.
Container throughput at non-Kwai Tsing terminals where the volume totalled 330,000 TEU, was 7.2 per cent up from 308,000 TEU in April 2019.
For the year-to-date, total throughput amounted to 5.74 million TEU, 3.2 per cent up from the corresponding four-month period last year.
