Russian port volume up 7.2pc to 3.7 million TEU in 8 months

CONTAINER throughput in Russian ports from January to August 2021 was up 7.2 per cent to 3.71 million TEU, while Baltic Basin ports increased' 4.2 per cent to 1.67 million TEU, reports Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide.

Goods through Russian ports from January to August 2021 amounted to 552.76 million tons, up 1.6 per cent year on year, according to the Association of Russian Merchant Seaports.
Dry goods handled rose 5.8 per cent to 274.16 million tons, compared to a reduction of 2.2 per cent to 278.6 million tons of liquid goods.
Baltic Sea Basin ports throughput of goods went up 1.6 per cent to 165 million tons. The handling of dry cargo increased 7.2 per cent.
The handling in the Baltic Sea Basin ports cannot quite keep pace with such an increase and rose by 'only' 4.2 per cent to 1.67 million TEU.
Rail container traffic via RZD railway network, from January to August 2021, increased by 1.4 per cent to 4.2 million TEU compared to the same period last year. Particularly encouraging were the figures for loaded containers. They rose by 19.5 per cent to three million TEU.
