MARITIME traffic has grown nine per cent while the Port of Marseille Fos bounced back, breaking records in the container and railway sectors, reports Colchester's Dry Cargo International.
Though the health crisis continues to test world trade, the Port managed 9,000 calls in 2021, an average of 25 calls per day.
Containers reached a record 1.5 million TEU while 220,000 TEU was moved by rail for another record.
Nevertheless, the various shortages are impacting dry bulk cargo, steel activity, with eight million tonnes processed in 2021, up 26 per cent compared to 2020, but down six per cent compared to 2019.
Cumulatively, other bulk traffic is up 11 per cent compared to 2020 and down ten per cent compared to 2019.
The ongoing diversification of the port's income is based on the development of growth drivers.
As a result, the Port of Marseille Fos is setting out to reconquer its area.
