Saudi Arabian ports posts 23.7pc increase in cargo throughput

SAUDI ports' container throughput increased 1.38 per cent in May to 600,107 TEU compared to May 2021, reports the Saudi Gazette.

The exported containers increased 2.57 per cent to 175,958 TEU, while the imported containers decreased 0.64 per cent to 176,978 TEU.
Meanwhile, the initiatives launched by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), have raised the number of transshipment containers in Saudi ports to reach 247,172 TEU.
Similarly, cargo throughput volumes increased 23.7 per cent to 21,041,021 tons, as the general cargo recorded a 21.86 per cent increase with a total of 810,244 tons.
Dry bulk increased 2.46 per cent to 4,166,749 tons, and the liquid bulk increased 30.74 per cent to 15,869,634 tons.
Whereas the number of ships increased 3.03 per cent to 1,020 vessels, and the number of vehicles increased 42.33 per cent with a total of 81,737 vehicles.
