GREEN corridors will be more than a test bed for shipping emissions, but will tie into national clean energy transition strategies, says US classification society, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), reported St Petersburg's PortNews.
To achieve our net-zero outcome by 2050, green corridors have to be much more than a series of disconnected shipping decarbonisation projects," said ABS chairman and CEO Christopher Wiernicki.
We will need structure around measuring and reporting to provide clear, consistent data," he told the Global Clean Energy Action Forum, of the Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation Ministerial recently in Pittsburgh.
"This will require independent verification and certification with an ongoing mechanism for maintaining and sharing data," Mr Wiernicki told the delegates of 31 countries.
"This will require verification, particularly of carbon metrics, to ensure ongoing transparency and reliability of data," he said.
