DANISH shipping giant Maersk has announced a new multi-year logistics partnership with UK-based construction equipment manufacturer JCB, under which it will become the new global Lead Logistics Provider (LLP) for JCB.

Maersk will offer end-to-end supply chain management services and management of JCB's appointed third-party warehousing provider, according to London's Air Cargo News.
To oversee JCB's end-to-end supply chain, Maersk will establish a global control tower in the UK and three regional control towers in the US, China and India to provide ocean, air, road, and rail cargo services.
Maersk will also deliver consolidation and customs services for JCB across various locations and manage its UK warehouse provider Unipart Logistics on an LLP basis.
Gary Jeffreys, Maersk's area managing director UK & Ireland, said: "JCB recognizes the great value that our integrator strategy offers for their supply chains. JCB and Maersk are an excellent strategic fit. This partnership will deliver a more agile and sustainable global supply chain for JCB. Maersk's experience and the collective strengths of both companies make it a great opportunity for us to deliver this vision."
Last month, AP Moller-Maersk applied to the US Department of Transportation to have the foreign air carrier permit of subsidiary Star Air transferred to its Maersk Air Cargo business, established in April.
Maersk Air Cargo will utilise Denmark's Billund Airport as its main hub. The airline's three newbuild Boeing B767-300F freighters will be operated by Miami-headquartered cargo airline Amerijet on a US-China route from this autumn.
