KAZAKHSTAN said it will expand its Caspian Sea Aktau port with a new US$28.9 million container hub by 2025, said a high tranport official, reported London's Port Technology.

Deputy head of the transport committee of the Kazakh Industry and Infrastructure Development Ministry Kasym Tlepov told the Kazakhstan Global Investment Roundtable that the hub will increase cargo traffic and container shipping.
The project, under the name Sarzha, will improve capacity by more than 500 per cent, increasing capacity from 40,000 TEU to 215,000 TEU per year.
Kazakhstan aims to entice shipping giants including Maersk and the Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) to use Aktau on the Caspian Sea.
The government will also outline plans to develop a marine terminal at the Caspian port of Kuryk, which will host multipurpose terminals and a logistics centre.
Industry and Infrastructure Development Minister Kairbek Uskenbaev said the project will be financed by private investment.
