TANGIER Med is one of Morocco's facilities to have seen growth in trade with Jeddah Islamic Port, reports UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
Despite its impressive performance since 2019 annual volumes only grew six per cent last year, to 7.60 million TEU, as competition in the Mediterranean basin heated up.
Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA) also stated that in at least one month, a 700,000-TEU target was breached.
Total tonnage handled at the port was also up six per cent, to 107.8 million tonnes.
The port complex handled 459,091 TIR trucks in 2022, up 13 per cent from in 2021.
Increasing vehicle traffic saw 478,589 new vehicles handled at the port complex's two vehicle terminals in 2022, up 11 per cent on 2021.
Liquid bulk traffic grew six per cent compared to 2021, to a total of 9.26 million tonnes of hydrocarbons.
