FRENCH shipping giant CMA CGM has announced a US$500 per TEU extra risk coverage surcharge for shipments to Sudan.
The French liner said in a statement that the surcharge is for dry and reefer containers and will come into effect from May 1.
The surcharge will be levied on containers to Sudan from North Europe, Scandinavia and Poland, Baltic, Black Sea, West Med, East Med, Adriatic, North Africa, Morocco, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East Gulf and the Red Sea.
Violent clashes have broken out in the North Africa country between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the capital Khartoum.
