Second offshore converter platform to be built in Rostock
Transmission system operator 50Hertz has awarded Neptun Smulders Offshore Renewables (NSORe) the contract to build an offshore converter platform for the LanWin3 grid connection project in the North Sea.
Key components, including the platform’s topside, will be manufactured at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde. The steel substructure, known as the jacket, will be built by Smulders in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. Siemens Energy will supply the high-voltage technology.
The LanWin3 contract follows a billion-euro order for the LanWin6 project awarded to the consortium in June. The NSORe share of the contracts for both platforms totals around EUR 2.5 billion, with most of the production and services expected to take place in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
LanWin3 will transmit offshore wind power from the North Sea to the German grid. Its onshore converter station is planned for Mühlenbeck near Schwerin.
