THE Port of Salalah has taken 12 out of the 16 new eco-efficient rubber-tyre gantry (RTG) cranes from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company (ZPMC) to expand operations, reports Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News.
The new equipment reduces the terminal's environmental impact and improves the container handling capabilities.
The investments come on top of three new mobile harbour cranes from Liebherr, expected to arrive in Q1 of 2022. Two of the mobile harbour cranes will arrive in February while the third will be received in April.
"Our investment in the latest RTG and mobile harbour cranes demonstrates our long-term commitment to optimize operational efficiencies and cargo handling services while accommodating existing and new trade," said Port of Salalah CEO Mark Hardiman.
"We're excited to have the 12 new RTGs already in the commissioning-progress phase to be delivered, with the remaining four expected to arrive later this year. Once completed, it will enable us to expand our capabilities, capacity, and efficiencies, and support increased demand." said Mr Hardiman.
