Cargotec's Kalmar introduces new RTG collision warning system

Author:   Posttime:2023-06-12

KALMAR, a division of Cargotec, is introducing a collision warning system for its manually operated straddle carrier range, according to company statement.

This system can be added as an optional feature to new machines or installed as a retrofit upgrade for existing ones.

Its purpose is to enhance safety by providing drivers with visible and audible warnings whenever there is a potential risk of collision, enabling them to react promptly to potential hazards.

By receiving timely warnings, operators can effectively prevent or minimise the impact of collisions, while also experiencing reduced stress levels by remaining alert and attentive during operations.

The collision warning system not only detects obstacles in the straddle carrier's path or blind spots but also alerts the driver if the spreader, whether empty or loaded, is positioned too low when approaching a stack of containers. Importantly, the driver retains full control of the machine throughout.

"Safety is one of the core design principles at Kalmar, and we are constantly striving to introduce new features and functionalities that will enable our customers to increase their operational safety," said Kalmar senior manager Jeroka Alanko.

"The collision warning system will help our customers to make machine operation safer and improve overall terminal safety as well as reduce repair costs and extend equipment lifetime.
